We're finally here in sunny Escondido. Formerly the avocado capital of America, now a picturesque tourist destination in the San Diego hinterland.
So far we have learned that the Airbus A380 is big. very big. unfortunately it is still impossible to sleep in cattle class. The steerage service on Qantas was first rate and the plane is quiet. If only the other passengers would shut up. Lights out means go to sleep people!
I have learned to drive on the right hand side of the road and am doing so in a Chevy Suburban (tick rental box "biggest possible passenger vehicle"). With the brilliant co driving effort from Jackie we havent crashed yet.
Have sampled some local cuisine: Carl's Jr Burgers and some truly awesome milkshakes from Ruby's Diner on the Pacific Highway at Laguna.
Ezra is still enjoying the 30something hours of birthday celebration. The 14th of September is proving to be a very long day! He was a little concerned when we switched over to California time mid-flight and I asked for the presents back as it was the 13th again.
We're a little sleep deprived but have had a dip and a waterslide and will head out to dinner as soon as Declan stops mucking around and gets dressed.
I have just realized I am in the same time zone as William Shatner. Good times.
