The Grand Canyon

We're very excited about the arrival of Alice Parker. Congrats to Emily and Ryan.

Now, I believe Americans have a propensity to over exaggerate. "The World Series, the biggest, the best, etc" but when they tell me that The Grand Canyon is the widest, longest, deepest and most spectacular natural feature in the world they are not exaggerating.

We flew to the Grand Canyon from Phoenix in a 10 seater cesna. The last half hour was a scenic view of the canyon. It is massive. It is spectacular. Everywhere we looked we saw soaring rock formations and plunging ravines and side canyons with colours from reds to greens yellows to whites and browns.
Meandering through the bottom of the canyon is the Colorado River which has created this scene over millions of years.

We landed at Grand Canyon village and checked out some great views along the south rim. Jackie took a lot of photos of squirrels, chipmunks or gophers. We're not sure which.

After a quick lunch was more sightseeing and more spectacular views. I envy those who have had the chance to hike along the bottom or raft in the river. Flying over was great, viewing from the rim was excellent but now I want more!

Next time...

Careful...you're in serious danger of liking geology. And let me tell you, none of your family will get in the car with you again!!
Having said that i can point you in the direction of some really cool "dirt nerd" sites around Melbourne...

Boat along the Colorado River is quite amazing, so is helicopter down to bottom. It actually seems to look even bigger from down below.

Did you get to see the observation deck? Where it's clear glass that you can see through?

Glad your having a fantastic time!!! :D
